After many fits and starts over the last fifteen years, a replacement for the iconic Lotus Esprit finally seems to be nearing reality. Spy photos of various prototypes have been cropping up with increasing frequency in recent weeks, but this is the first shot of the latest prototype on the road, probably somewhere in Norfolk.The Lotus designed 3.5L V-8 in the last iteration of the Esprit will be supplanted by a BMW supplied V-8 this time around, probably producing 370 hp or so. MotorAuthority expects the weight to come in around 2600 lbs., which should be easily achievable if Lotus uses the bonded aluminum extrusion technology of the Elise. With this much power in such a light car, it could put the likes of the F430 and Gallardo to shame.
